A Comprehensive Big Data Management App

AT&T Big Data embarked on a project to develop an app designed to oversee the volume and quality of data lakes, conduct data analysis for valuable insights, and moderate all data feeds while addressing any arising issues. This app aims to provide comprehensive tools for managing and analyzing big data, ensuring efficient and effective data management.

My Role: Leading UX/UI for Data Management

  • Crafted personas, user journeys, and high-fidelity mockups to accurately capture end-users' requirements and preferences

  • Collaborated closely with the development team to ensure alignment with mockups

During my research, I identified three distinct user types within the main user base, each with their own specific needs and requirements.

Big Data Leadership

These users oversee the volume and quality of data lakes, ensuring overall data integrity and making high-level strategic decisions.

“As a Big Data leader, the priority is ensuring the accuracy of the data within the lakes. Having confidence in the reliability and timeliness of the information is crucial. Additionally, a high-level view of all data feeds is necessary for efficient oversight of operations. Prompt identification of errors is vital, emphasizing the importance of quickly spotting discrepancies and taking necessary action. Timely notifications about new data ingestion are essential for staying informed and reacting promptly to system changes.”

Individual Contributors

These users conduct detailed data analysis to extract valuable insights, supporting their specific project goals and tasks.

“As a data scientist for Big Data, my role involves conducting analysis and gathering insights from the data lakes for various projects. I need to be confident that the data I'm working with is accurate and reliable. Before conducting my analysis, I want to easily identify and address any data issues to ensure the integrity of my findings. Additionally, I require the ability to follow specific feeds that interest me and receive notifications when new data becomes available, allowing me to stay up-to-date and efficiently conduct my work.”

Moderators

These users moderate all data feeds, troubleshoot issues, and maintain smooth data operations.

“As a data specialist for Big Data, my primary responsibility is to moderate all data feeds and troubleshoot any issues or anomalies that arise. It's essential to receive notifications when anomalies occur in the data and when someone reports an issue. Additionally, I need the ability to respond to these issues promptly, maintaining clear communication with individuals involved and keeping a record for reference.”

Sitemap & App Structure

The sitemap and app structure presented here have been meticulously crafted based on insights gathered from user research, encompassing the needs and preferences of three distinct user profiles. Through extensive analysis of user behaviors and requirements, the layout and organization of the app have been tailored to ensure optimal usability and effectiveness for Big Data leadership, individual contributors, and moderators. This comprehensive approach ensures that each user type can seamlessly navigate the app, access relevant features, and accomplish their tasks with ease and efficiency.

Drawing from the detailed app structure outlined above, I simulated scenarios for three distinct user profiles, namely Big Data leadership, individual contributors, and moderators.
